Biography | Blair C. Fensterstock is the Managing Partner of Fensterstock & Partners LLP, a complex commercial litigation boutique located at 30 Wall Street in New York City. Mr. Fensterstock received his J.D. degree from Columbia Law School in 1975 where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and his A.B. degree from Bowdoin College in 1972 where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He was the recipient of the James Bowdoin Cup, awarded annually to the varsity athlete with the highest academic average. Mr. Fensterstock started his legal career at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett (1975-1979), then went on to Dewey Ballantine (1979-1983) and was then recruited to be Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Reliance Group Holdings, Inc. (1983-1992) where he also served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Frank B. Hall & Co., Inc.(1987-1992). In 1993, Mr. Fensterstock joined Sutherland Asbill & Brennan as a litigation partner, and then ultimately founded his present firm in 1998. Among his other accomplishments, he has authored the Chapter on Complaints in West’s Commercial Litigation in New York State Courts since 1995, chaired the Products Liability Committee on the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, served as a member of the Special Committee of the New York State Bar Association to review the Proposed Code of Evidence for the State of New York, served as the Vice Chairman and member of the Executive Committee of the Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association, served on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Committee for International Human Rights and the Counsel of New York Law Associates, was Vice Chairman of the Board of Regents of the Center for Security Policy, and is a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia University School of Law. He is also an Honorary State Chairman of the Business Advisory Council of the National Republican Congressional Committee, a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation, a member of the Federal Bar Council, the Defense Research Institute, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Bar Association, and has served as the President of the New York Inn of Court since 2005. Mr. Fensterstock has served as an arbitrator for Duke University’s Private Adjudication Center, a Judge at the National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition sponsored by the American Bar Association, an arbitrator on the Commercial Arbitration Panel for the American Arbitration Association, has moderated various Symposia on diverse legal issues, chaired many programs sponsored by the New York State Bar Association, and offered commentary on diverse legal issues for various news organizations. Mr. Fensterstock, since 1993, has been the Liaison Counsel on all the civil litigation arising out of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and, since 2001 has been heavily involved in tax shelter litigation. Mr. Fensterstock has special expertise in the areas of tax shelters, insurance, reinsurance, employment, mutual fund matters, accountant malpractice, securities, non-competition agreements, intellectual property, and product liability litigation. He attributes his success to hard work, maintenance of a sense of humor, treatment of his peers and associates with respect, and a keen attention to ethics. Mr. Fensterstock is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court: the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, and Eighth Circuits; the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, the Northern District of New York, and Nebraska; the United State Customs Court; and the United States Court of International Trade. Mr. Fensterstock is an avid golfer and has memberships at the Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle (Dornoch, Scotland); Pinehurst Golf Club (Pinehurst, North Carolina); Bayonne Golf Club (Bayonne, New Jersey); Palmas del Mar Country Club (Humacao, Puerto Rico), as well as the University Club (New York City). |
