Biography | Dr. Andrew Batsis was a loving husband, a gentle dentist, a caring Kiwanian, and he resembled Santa Claus. Dr. Batsis was the firstborn of Sophie Apostolou Batsis and Christos Batsis. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 6th, 1941. His education started in Brooklyn and continued in Bradley Beach. He graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1958 and attended Monmouth College. Dr. Batsis was accepted early at Tufts University in 1963. He returned to New Jersey and graduated Monmouth College in 1965. He graduated New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry (Rutgers School of Dental Medicine), and obtained his license to practice dentistry in New Jersey. Working as a dentist, he made all his patients feel comfortable. He treated them like family, always smiling warmly, clearly explaining needed procedures, and giving treatment options. He was always willing to set up a fee schedule for working families. His patients said he was a painless dentist and they loved and respected him. After working 35 years as a dentist, he earned the Strathmore's Who's Who of American Dentists Award. His dental accomplishments were very special. From 1971, Kiwanis became a large part of Dr. Batsis' life. He was inspired with the Kiwanis Objects and made himself known in Toms River, New Jersey, his longtime residence. Soon after, he became known in all of New Jersey Kiwanis, culminating in being elected Governor of New Jersey Kiwanis. He then became known internationally as a Kiwanis International Trustee and committee chair of Youth Services and more. Over the years, Dr. Batsis became a hero to the youth he guided and to many of his peers. |
